SANIBEL CITY HALL
Mr. Woodroffe’s prior experience includes Project Architect for the
design of the Award
Winning Sanibel
City Hall. Sanibel
City Hall design process evolved
through numerous public/town meeting workshops and responded to the character
of the City of Sanibel
and space needs. Various locations for
the facility on a City site were reviewed prior to finalizing its current
location. The design also incorporated
historical elements of the island and the historic lighthouse. This 18,000 square feet facility houses over
seven City departments with office suites ranging from 1,000 square feet to
4,000 square feet, including the Police Department. Additionally, the facility was designed as a
refuge of last resort (hurricane conditions) with emergency requirements
(Sanibel is a barrier island with coastal construction and communication
requirements), including redundancy utility system, command center and life
support systems. Other design
considerations included public meeting hall with overflow capacity flexibility,
staff snack bar/lounge and future expansion capabilities. The facility is elevated with parking on the
ground level.
